In pedestrian Lithostroto the center of Argostoli is the church of St. Spyridon. The temple is known for its famous clock and gilded carved iconostasis. Every year on August 11 from here begins the procession of the earthquake of 1953.

The previous evening vespers celebrated in memory of the earthquake and the miracle of St. Spyridon. On the day this morning celebrated the Divine Liturgy for the unjustly shed victims of the earthquake of 1953 and in the evening after the procession of the image on the streets of Argostoli ends the day supplications and prayers.

The Monastery of St. Gerasimos is the most sacred of the island. It chtismeno village down on top of a green valley with 40 wells near the villages Fragata and balms.

Saint Gerasimos is the patron saint of Kefalonia and the relic is kept in the monastery, in a silver urn.

The Saint Gerasimos was a monk from Trikala, Corinth and founded the monastery in the 16th century, renovating an older one, which was dedicated to the Virgin. Saint Gerasimos died in 1597 and consecrated in 1622.

He became famous for his miraculous abilities in people who suffer from mental illnesses. The monastery is impressive, with a chapel and a new church was richly ornamented.

Under the monastery (in the beginning, the monastery was in front) there is a cave built by St. Gerasimos, where they prayed and had his cell. Pilgrims from all over Greece come to pray and honor the saint.

The people of Kefalonia commemorates the death of Saint Gerasimos on August 16 and the return of the relics on October 20. In those days, a procession of the Holy occurs. The casket carried under the shade of a plane tree, which was planted himself Agios Gerasimos. The ceremony followed by a celebration with music, dancing, food and wine.

The Monastery Atros is the oldest monastery on Kefalonia is located in the homonymous mountain (Atros) and at an altitude of 760 meters!

It is approximately 3 km from Poros. Built around the 8th century and is where fortress architecture still survives in good condition mediaeval tower.

Unfortunately, the monastery has been badly damaged by the 1953 earthquake and fire (1994).

The monastery of St. Andrew is probable that it was built in the 13th century and renovated in 1639. It was then discovered and rare paintings of the 16th century. Later the church was restored.

The site of the church preserved intact in its original form. The iconostasis is the work of the early 17th century icons. The parapet of the temple, with subjects from the Passion of Christ, are the work of the priest Theodore Poulaki while bimothyra representing the three hierarchs are works of deacon Athanasius Anninou.I Monastery celebrated twice a year: on November 30 for the memory of the Apostle Andrew Friday and Easter on the memory of the Life-Giving Spring, which is the patron of the monastery Monday.

In 1988 he founded the Byzantine Ecclesiastical Museum initiative of His Eminence Metropolitan of Cephalonia in 2002 and housed in its own building, which was built for this purpose at the Monastery of St. Andrea.Stin first room are detached frescoes of the Church of the Archangels Monastery Milapidia. The exhibits of the hall include shroud of national martyr Patriarch of Constantinople Gregory V, the stole of Saint Nektarios and the shirt of Saint Panagis (Pope-Bass). The Museum also exhibited two handwritten letters of St. Kosmas the Aetolian, in the year 1777.

One of the most important exhibits of the museum is the Archdiocesan Kefalonia bag, embroidered by the nun Theodora channel from the village Meanwhile, in space from 1715 to 1721 and issues from the Lord Jesus Christ as "Vine" on the front and the Mother of God as "Root of Iesai" on the back.

To the west coast of Lixouri and 15 kilometers from the town is the historic Monastery of Kipouraion.

The monastery is built on one of the most impressive landscapes of Kefalonia on a high cliff about 90 meters from the sea.
Built in the 17th century and its name is due to the many gardens maintained by the fathers to provide the necessary livelihood.

In 1759 the church was originally built the Monastery Archimandrite of Chrysantho where Petropoulos and dedicated to the Annunciation and the Elevation of the Holy Cross. In a short time created a male monastery, which in its heyday, the staff is 80 members.

In the monastery you can worship the miraculous icon of the Annunciation and the frames of the founders of the Monastery of Saints Chrysanthou, Constantius and Efrosynou.
Also piece of the True Cross has donated to the monastery by the Russian Prince Vladimir Dolgoroukis the year 1862.

In elegant glass bottle is myrrh St. Demetrius Myrrh from the 7th century. You can even worship relics of various saints and the icon of Agia Paraskevi, unique heirloom ruined Abbey of Taffy.


The monastery celebrates:
- On 25 March (Annunciation)
- The Third Sunday of Lent (Cross)
- 14 September (Exaltation of the Holy Cross with solemn vigil and the presence of its High Priest)
- On 26 July (Holy Friday)

The view from the monastery is unique and deserves to admire and photograph the famous sunset.
